About the Topic: ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 55

The purpose of this presentation is to provide an introduction to ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 55, which explains occupant thermal comfort requirements and how they affect design, and consider changes incorporated in the 2020 version of the standard. Also to be discussed are the principles of thermal comfort, heat transfer and the benefits of innovative HVAC strategies that pair traditional air conditioning with air movement. The resulting systems provide energy efficient thermal comfort and increase building resiliency.

About the Speaker: Christian Taber

Principal engineer, codes and standards, for Big Ass Fans, Christian Taber, BEMP, HBDP, CEM, participates in the development of building codes, standards, and regulations, frequently collaborating with AMCA, the International Code Council, ASHRAE, and the U.S. Department of Energy. He has presented his work at various national and international conferences, written articles published in ASHRAE Journal, and taught undergraduate engineering courses on HVAC/environmental control at the University of Kentucky.
